Campus Dining Review Committee
The Campus Dining Review Committee (CDRC) is in full swing. For those of you that haven’t heard, the CDRC is a joint student-admin committee dedicated to hearing the student voice and getting it to the negotiating table as the college reconsiders Aramark’s contract next year. I know many of you feel strongly about dining and we’re working hard to make sure we can hear from as many of you as possible. To do that, the CDRC has put in place a huge calendar of events and research that kicks off in October. Here’s a quick preview of what we have so far, be sure to show up and get your voice heard!
“Food for Thought”: Members of the CDRC will be in your house to facilitate a brief informal conversation about food and hear your thoughts. Questions raised here will also be brought to our panel on October 12! Snacks will be provided. The schedule is:

Cushing: Sunday, October 2, 9-9:30 pm

*All of the above will be held in each respective house’s MPR.
Conversation Dinners, 6-7 pm, October 4 & 5, ACDC – Dodge Room: Join members of the CDRC for dinner in the Doge Room. A chance to grab food from the DC and talk a little about what’s on your plate.
Town Hall, 7:30-8:30 pm, October 12, UpC: A panel of employees and administrators related to dining will be available to cover all of your questions about food during this important discussion. Tentative panelists include Maureen King, Senior Director of Campus Dining, Teresa Quinn, Associate Dean for Campus Activities, Mike Conlin, Head Chef, Diane Dalton, Director of ACDC, and Laura Leone, Director of Operations.
Focus Groups: Please visit http://vsa.vassar.edu/student-life/campus-dining-review to sign up to participate in CDRC focus groups. These will provide important data to the research team and everyone who participates in a group will receive $10 in vcash! Focus groups will take place October 28 & 29.
Tabling: look for the CDRC table in the College Center the week of October 10, including during the Harvest Health Fair on October 12. There’ll be a space to share your thoughts with the committee, as well as a chance to sign up to participate in focus groups!

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October is national domestic violence awareness month! Last year the VSA, along with CARES, SAVP and several other important allies worked hard to get a relationship abuse charge into the college regulations, and this year it looks like that will become a reality! However, that is not the end of the work on campus around these issues. Relationship abuse and interpersonal violation does happen here. So, in an effort to raise awareness, the VSA has partnered with CARES, SAVP, the Office of Health Education, LGBTQ Center, ALANA Center, and other great dedicated resources on this campus to bring you the following schedule of Domestic Violence Awareness Month programming, we hope you can make it!
SpeakOut, Monday, October 3rd 7—9pm, The Mug: CARES presents this safe space to share and speak out against personal violation.
First Friday, Friday, October 7th 12-2pm, Faculty Parlor: Presented by Women’s Studies—an informal discussion on the realities of sexual assault and stalking on Vassar campus. RSVP to shstukes@vassar.edu by September 30th
Culture of Violence, Tuesday, October 25th 5—7pm, The ALANA Center: A discussion about misogyny, violence, and homophobia in popular music and culture, featuring clips from the film Hip Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes.
FruitSalad, Friday, October 28th 12—1pm, LGBTQ Center: Steve Lavoie, Assistant Director for Campus Life LGBTQ Programs, hosts a lunch discussion on the unique challenges of domestic abuse in same-sex relationships.
Study Breaks: Look for CARES presentations on healthy relationships, in your house throughout the month.
Also, take a look at the Empty Table Display in the College Center and the lobby of ACDC this month. These tables commemorate recent victims of domestic violence.
