About Us
Matthew’s Minstrels is a co-ed a cappella group from Vassar College. The group was founded in 1978 by a few courageous (and shameless) souls in order to provide the Vassar community with entertaining and memorable musical experiences. Nowadays, we combine singing with feats of impossible acrobatics and/or interpretive dance numbers performed regardless of actual dance skill or presence of choreography. Just kidding, but can you imagine the shenanigans that would ensue if that was actually a thing?
We have performed at other universities, private schools, restaurants, charity benefits, private parties, hunting and shooting clubs, airplane hangars, DMVs, DMZs, and interstate toll booths. You get the idea – just about everywhere! The Minstrels’ repertoire is always expanding and includes a variety of songs spanning from the smooth, polished doo-wop of the 50s to many of your favorite 80s tunes to today’s chart topping hits. It has also been rumored that our performances can elicit a chuckle or two. Well, this is true. (We rarely rhyme. Sorry about that.) Our relaxed comedy has been our biggest flaunting feature since our inception, and will definitely be awaiting you at our next show, along with inappropriate and unnecessary references to fruit.
