Vassar Haitian Initiative

In January 2010, four members of ProHealth worked with the community of Lespinasse and a non-profit organization on educational, nutritional and sanitation projects at the local primary school. On January 12, the earthquake necessitated a change in plans from these initiatives to relief efforts. Our team of a nurse practitioner, EMTs and first aid trained students gathered medical supplies and assisted as first responders. The experience has left us with a deep connection to Haiti and a reconnection to the importance of critical public health infrastructure to respond to disasters.
